About the DWLA Foundation

Founded in 2017, the Dallas Women Lawyers Association Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports the mission and vision of the Dallas Women Lawyers Association (DWLA) in its efforts to elevate the standing of women in the legal profession through charitable giving.  Each year, the DWLA Foundation awards “Get Started Grants” to graduating law students; funds the Karen D. McCloud Memorial Grant, an annual grant to a solo or small firm woman lawyer to develop her legal practice; and provides periodic grants to nonprofits who support women and children in North Texas.  The Foundation is proud to have supported prior grant recipients Attitudes & Attire, Unlocking DOORS, Genesis Women’s Shelter, and Hope’s Door New Beginning Center.  In 2022, the Foundation created an Allies program to be the sustaining force behind the Foundation’s philanthropic efforts.

Make a Difference

Sometimes it’s difficult to envision the impact
your donation can make, but all funding
through the Foundation will have an impact.
Your support will strengthen women and
children’s lives in the local community.

WHY WE GIVE

Your support will help the DWLA Foundation grow so we may support various charitable and educational activities assisting women and children in the Dallas metropolitan area and surrounding suburbs. Your donation will allow us to provide a variety of scholarships for women in the legal community as well as provide charitable legal aid for the public, assist in improving the delivery of legal services to the indigent, and provide services to the community that further the interests of women and children throughout the DFW Metroplex.

This grant empowered and encouraged me to invest in myself and my office…My most pressing goals have been to automate my new client process and to develop and prepare systems in anticipation of a flood of new clients. I’ve adopted the mantra to “work smarter, not harder”.

Kandace Walter - Karen D. McCloud 2020 Inaugural Recipient

I am so grateful and humbled to have been chosen. This award is not only a financial support for my business but also a validation of the hard work that it has taken to get here. It is transformational. Thank you for supporting small business owners like me!
